HCMC – Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province has urged the relevant agencies to speed up the Ho Tram airport project and submit a report before July 20.
The provincial government on July 14 asked the Department of Transport to team up with the Departments of Planning-Investment, Natural Resources-Environment and Construction, and Dat Do District to review the airport project, which will be located in Dat Do District.
The relevant agencies were tasked with mapping out a plan to develop the airport, listing obstacles facing the project and reporting them to the provincial government before July 20.
In 2016, the Ho Tram Project Company proposed the provincial government allow it to invest in a special-use airport in Dat Do District to receive international tourists for its resort complex in Xuyen Moc District.
Under the province’s air traffic development plan with a vision toward 2030 approved by the prime minister, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province has just two airports, Vung Tau and Con Dao. As such, the provincial government proposed the prime minister add the project to the general plan.
In October 2020, the Ministry of National Defence approved a location for the airport in Lang Dai and Loc An communes in Dat Do District. In May 2021, the province approved a plan to develop the Ho Tram airport project.
As planned, the Ho Tram airport project will cover an area of some 244 hectares and require VND4.25 trillion in investment. The airport is set to handle Airbus and Boeing aircraft, the local media reported.
