HCMC – An express ferry service linking Ca Mau Province and Nam Du and Phu Quoc islands off Kien Giang Province remains suspended due to woefully low passenger traffic.

“As the temporary port on the Ong Doc River cannot handle over 30-seater coaches, tourists in large groups find it difficult to enter the port and use the ferry service,” Vu Van Khuong, general director of Phu Quoc Express, said, citing it as the key reason for the suspension.

The Ca Mau-Nam Du-Phu Quoc boat route was put into service by Phu Quoc Express JSC in July 2020 and was expected to attract a large number of tourists to the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau.

The service was suspended for a long time due to the Covid-19 pandemic and then was reactivated on March 18.

The general director of Phu Quoc Express said that the express ferry service would be back to service when there are suitable ports on the south bank and bridges are constructed across the Ong Doc River.
