Central Vietnam braces for tropical depression

The Saigon Times

Must read

HCMC – A tropical depression formed in the East Sea this morning, February 12, prompting authorities in central Vietnam to warn boats to steer clear of affected waters due to strong winds and rough seas.

The depression was detected northwest of Vietnam’s Spratly Islands, with wind speeds of 40-50km/h and gusts up to 75km/h. It is now moving northwest at 5km/h, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Forecasts indicate that the depression will approach offshore areas between Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan provinces by February 14, maintaining similar wind speeds before gradually weakening over the next 48 to 72 hours as it drifts north-northwest.

The central and northern East Sea will experience rough seas, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Waters off Phu Yen to Ninh Thuan could see waves reaching 3.5 meters high with winds of up to 50 km/h.

Starting February 14, offshore waters from Hue to Binh Dinh are also forecast to experience waves of 2-3 meters. Authorities have advised boat operators to remain onshore and stay alert for dangerous weather conditions.

Fishermen and maritime operators are urged to monitor weather updates and take necessary safety precautions.
