HCMC – Four years after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, China has reclaimed its position as the biggest source market for Vietnam’s tourism sector this month.
In May, 357,000 Chinese tourists have come to Vietnam, surpassing South Korea’s 351,000. However, in the first five months of the year, China ranks second after South Korea with 1.6 million visitors, accounting for 21.2% of the total. South Korea remains Vietnam’s largest source market with over 1.9 million visitors in January-May.
According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Vietnam received nearly 1.4 million international visitors in May, a 10% decrease against the previous month but a significant increase of over 50% compared to the same period last year.
So far this year, Vietnam has received almost 7.6 million international tourists, a nearly 65% year-on-year increase. In addition to major countries like Taiwan, the U.S., and Japan, the 10 largest source markets for Vietnam’s tourism include Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, and India.
The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism noted that European markets continue to experience good growth thanks to the effectiveness of the visa policy implemented since August 15, 2023.
