CAN THO – A coastal road project in Dong Thap Province linking Tay Ninh Province and Vinh Long Province is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2029, according to local authorities.
Speaking at a monthly press briefing on May 26, Mai Phuong Thuan from Dong Thap’s Department of Construction said the province had completed a feasibility study for the project and submitted it to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal.
The road is part of the broader coastal road network in the Mekong Delta region. The section passing through Dong Thap will stretch more than 31 kilometers, with around 25.2 kilometers to be newly built. The remaining section will overlap with Provincial Road 871B.
The VND7-trillion road will have two to four lanes and allow for a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
A key component of the project is the Ben Chua cable-stayed bridge, which will span more than two kilometers. It is one of five bridges planned along the coastal route in Dong Thap.
Construction is scheduled for the 2025-2030 period, with work expected to begin in early 2027. The route is targeted for completion in 2029.
The Mekong Delta coastal road is considered a major transport infrastructure project for the region. Local authorities expect it to improve regional connectivity and support economic development as provinces expand their marine-oriented economies following recent administrative restructuring.
