Covid green pass information expected to be available on chip-based ID cards

HCMC – Information about Covid green passes, vaccination, testing and many others is expected to be integrated into chip-based ID cards of local residents in the upcoming period, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The ministry’s Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order yesterday, October 2, said the ministry has issued some 45 million electronic identification cards to local residents up to now.

The ministry is launching applications and features on the national database systems on population and citizen ID cards embedded with a microchip, with an aim to help citizens perform procedures and transactions more conveniently and effectively.

Especially, given the current complicated Covid situation, the ministry has integrated a wide range of features into the chip-based ID cards, such as information linked to Covid green passes, vaccination, testing, travel permits, and driving licenses among others.

Also, the ID card includes information about the card holder’s dependants.

The citizen database is absolutely guaranteed. No individuals, organizations can read and copy personal data integrated in the ID cards, said the ministry.

Regarding the checkpoint management feature, the department said businesses and organizations can easily register this feature to monitor the Covid transmission risk among their employees and guests visiting their offices, facilities to proactively take anti-virus measures.
