Must read

HCMC – The General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) has asked the customs departments of HCMC, Haiphong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Binh Dinh to speed up the processing of containers of scrap at seaports.

According to GDVC, the customs departments of HCMC and Haiphong have not completed the report on scrap classification despite two official dispatches issued in October 2019 and May 2020.

GDVC demanded that HCMC quickly finish classifying the scrap at seaports, especially hazardous waste and inflammable materials.

After the classification, the scrap will be put up for auction. Enterprises that hold a certificate from the Vietnam Environment Administration confirming that they meet environmental protection requirements in importing scrap as production materials will be able to join the auction.

GDVC also asked the customs departments of these localities to re-export hazardous waste and inflammable materials. The list comprising the shipping lines, container numbers and seal numbers must be sent to the department for a review.

GDVC urged the departments to quickly report the number of unprocessed containers at seaports as of August 31, 2020, and the number of scrap containers that were imported and re-exported in 2018, 2019 and between January and August 2020.
