HCMC – Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda is considering building an auto production plant in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The automaker is planning to develop a state-of-the-art manufacturing line using modern technology to produce cars in the province and contribute to modernizing Vietnam’s auto industry, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Vietnam Vítezslav Grepl said during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc last week.

Speaking at the meeting, Ondrej Cerny, a representative of Skoda, said that the firm planned to start work on the factory in 2022 and put it into operation in 2023.

Skoda expects the Vietnamese Government, ministries and the Quang Ninh government to support it so that the plan can be put into action easily and the factory can operate effectively.

Deputy Minister Ngoc highly valued Skoda’s investment plan in Vietnam and expected the firm to share its know-how on car production and help Vietnamese enterprises bring about high efficiency in the auto industry.

Skoda is one of the oldest companies in the Czech Republic and is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.

The Czech Republic has invested in 44 projects worth over US$91 million in Vietnam. It currently ranks 44th out of the 141 countries investing in Vietnam.
