Daily Covid caseload rises to over 5,000

HCMC – The Ministry of Health today, October 30, reported 5,227 new Covid-19 cases, with three of them imported and 5,224 locally infected in 50 cities and provinces, up 335 cases day-on-day.

Of the total domestic infections, HCMC recorded 1,042 cases, followed by Dong Nai with 679, Binh Duong with 665 and Bac Lieu with 404.

In addition, 298 other cases were detected in Kien Giang, 231 in An Giang, 223 in Tien Giang, 203 in Tay Ninh, 190 in Soc Trang, 146 in Daklak and 106 in Long An. Other localities had fewer than 100 cases each.

In the fourth Covid-19 wave, Vietnam has confirmed 910,782 domestically transmitted cases, including 815,519 recoveries. Today alone, 2,204 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Meanwhile, 64 Covid-19 deaths were reported today, including 30 in HCMC, 13 in Binh Duong, five in Bac Lieu, four each in Long An and Soc Trang, three in An Giang, and one each in Can Tho, Kien Giang, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang and Ninh Thuan.

In related news, the HCMC Department of Health has proposed administering the third Covid-19 vaccine shot to frontline forces and those with a high risk of the coronavirus infection in the last two months of the year, said doctor Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, deputy director of the department.

At a conference reviewing the city’s anti-pandemic fight on October 30, Chau said in the next two months, the city would complete the vaccination for residents aged 18 and above and children aged between 12 and 17.

In early 2022, the city will vaccinate children aged three and above.

As of October 28, more than 7.1 million people in HCMC have got at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose, including 5.6 million people having received two doses.

In another development, Binh Duong Province will vaccinate children aged between 15 and 17 in the province from tomorrow, October 31, to November 2. The province will use an estimated 58,500 Pfizer doses in this vaccination campaign.
