HCMC – A local man in the central city of Danang has tested positive for Covid-19 and been put on a ventilator, raising Vietnam’s total Covid-19 infections to 418 as of this morning, July 26.

The 61-year-old patient, confirmed as the 418th case, was infected with the respiratory disease from community transmission. The source of transmission remains unknown. This Hai Chau District resident is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Danang Hospital.

The city has adopted multiple measures to determine affected areas and quarantine people having close contact with the patient, aiming to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Earlier, another local man in the city had been confirmed to have contracted the disease in community, tagged as the 416th case.

The Health Ministry then sent three special working teams to Danang to support the city in the fight against the contagious disease.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at a Government meeting on Saturday asked the city and the health sector to take drastic measures to trace the source of transmission, including applying technology and visiting each household and location where the 416th patient had been to.

The Health Ministry was told to send more health experts and medical equipment to the city to assist its treatment for the 416th patient.

Local authorities have to continue to implement Covid-19 preventive measures, requesting local residents to regularly wash their hands.

Besides, the Government leader required that control over border gates be tightened to prevent illegal entry into the country. Also, he ordered the Ministry of Public Security to prosecute a ring that has illegally brought foreigners into the country.

Authorities and police force have to monitor and take any individual illegally entering Vietnam to quarantine facilities, PM Phuc said.

As of 6 a.m. today, of the 418 confirmed cases, 276 are imported cases and were put in quarantine upon arrival in the country. The number of recovered cases was 365.

Regarding the 54 active cases, eight of them have tested negative one to two times.
