HCMC – The Health Ministry yesterday evening has confirmed one more new Covid-19 case who is a five-year-old girl returning home from Russia, bringing Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally to 417 cases as of July 25.

The girl is a resident in the northern province of Thai Binh. She was repatriated home on Flight VN5062 on July 9 and was quarantined upon arrival at Can Tho airport in the Mekong Delta. She is being treated at Bac Lieu General Hospital.

According to the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control, 365 of the 417 cases have recovered. Most of the active cases are in stable condition.

Notably, the 416th patient, who was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 from community transmission earlier in the day, is in critical condition, with his health worsening rapidly. He was put on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and is receiving continuous blood purification treatment.

Doctors’ prognosis for the patient indicated he could have to rely on ECMO for a long time. ECMO is a life support machine that allows patients’ lungs and hearts to improve and function properly.

The 416th patient is a 57-year-old male resident of Danang City that ended the country’s 99 consecutive days without Covid-19 case in the community.
