HCMC – The transport authority in Danang City will pilot a public bike rental service in the central coastal city starting from March 29 to help move toward developing a green transport system.
The city will set up 61 stations with roughly 600 bicycles allocated to five districts. These stations will be located on the sidewalk near bus stops to enhance public transportation connectivity or near public places, the local media reported.
Each bike will be equipped with an ID tag, a smart key, a GPS and a solar charger.
Users can opt for hourly or daily rentals and make online payments via e-wallets such as Zalopay, MoMo and Payoo. The rental services will be offered at VND5,000 per 30 minutes or VND50,000 per day for a ride of no more than 7.5 hours.
The project to offer the public bike rental service is being executed by the city’s Department of Transport, following the direction of the municipal People’s Council and People’s Committee, said Bui Hong Trung, director of the Transport Department.
After piloting the service for a year, the Transport Department will review and report the implementation of the project to the city’s government for consideration and further expansion of the service, he added.
