DANANG – After two years of suspension due to the pandemic, Danang City on April 29 welcomed back the first guests from South Korea – the largest international market for this central coastal city over the years.

Accordingly, the Danang Department of Tourism and Vietjet Air yesterday jointly welcomed 220 guests on the flight VJ879 from Incheon (South Korea) to Danang City at the Danang International Airport.

They were the first guests from South Korea to come back to Danang. This was also the first flight run by the Vietnamese private air carrier in its plan of operating six flights per week between Danang and Incheon.

According to the Danang Department of Tourism, representatives from about 15 travel companies joined the trip to study tourism products and services in Danang City and Quang Nam Province so that they can bring tourists to the central region in the near future.

“South Korea was the leading international market for the Danang’s tourism industry in many years before the Covid-19 outbreak. Thus, the resumption of flights from the market is very important”, said Nguyen Xuan Binh, Deputy Director of Danang Department of Tourism.

Reportedly, from 2015 to 2018, the number of Korean arrivals to Danang City as well as the central region increased from 210,000 to 1.5 million. In 2019, about 1.8 million visitors from South Korea came to Danang, accounting for 40% of the number of Korean visitors to Vietnam and becoming the largest international tourism market for Danang.

According to Danang International Terminal Investment and Operation JSC, some other airlines are going to resume flights from South Korea to Danang.

T’way Air and Jin Air airlines have been licensed to resume their commercial flights between Danang City and Incheon and Daegu (South Korea) from this May, with a frequency of two days/week. From June 2022, Korean Air will operate daily flights from Incheon to Danang.

Meanwhile, Jeju Air is waiting for being licensed to resume its daily flights from May 2 to October 30 from Incheon to Danang. Jeju Air is one of two airlines waiting to be licensed to fly to Danang apart from Hong Kong Express Airways with daily flights from Hong Kong to Danang from May 8.
