HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, April 30, reported 5,109 fresh daily Covid-19 cases, declining by 959 cases against yesterday. This is the lowest daily case count since October 29 last year.

Hanoi still recorded the highest number of new cases, at 837, followed by Phu Tho with 379, Yen Bai with 250 and Nghe An with 245. Quang Ninh and Lao Cai had 209 and 202 cases, respectively.

Since Covid struck Vietnam, the country has had nearly 10.65 million cases.

Over 16,700 Covid patients were announced to have recovered from the disease today, while the ministry reported three new Covid deaths with two in Binh Thuan and one in Kien Giang.

As for Covid vaccinations, the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health has written to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology on a plan to administer the fourth vaccine shot.

According to the general department, the advisory council on the use of Covid vaccines held a meeting on April 25 and agreed that three groups of people should receive the fourth shot.

They are people aged 50 and older; people aged 18 and older with immunodeficiency; and those at risk of infection with Covid, such as frontline workers and workers in industrial parks.

The fourth shot should be administered at least four months after the third one. Those infected with Covid after having got three doses would have to wait for at least three months after recovery to get the fourth shot.

The General Department of Preventive Medicine asked the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to build a plan to administer the fourth shot and submit it to the general department today.

To date, the country has administered more than 214 million doses, with over 195.7 million of them to people aged 18 and older, 17.3 million doses to children 12 to 17, and nearly 1.4 million doses to children 5 to 11.
