Deloitte Vietnam, one of the four largest firms in the country active in financial consulting, tax consulting, and auditing services, emphasizes corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with a focus on supporting education and the Navy.
Scholarships for students
At the end of May, Deloitte Vietnam, in partnership with Quy Nhon University, held a ceremony to award “Lighting Up Your Future” (LUYF) scholarships to 10 outstanding students from challenging backgrounds.
In addition, 15 scholarships from the “Lighting Up Your Belief” (LUYB) fund were awarded to high-achieving middle and high school students in Quy Nhon City who have overcome difficulties.
The “Lighting Up Your Belief” scholarship fund, in its third year, supports orphans and is part of a national initiative led by the Vietnamese Women’s Union to assist children orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic since 2021. The fund provides scholarships to students aged 15-18 who are facing hardships but excel academically. Scholarships have been awarded to orphans across various provinces, including Hanoi, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, and Binh Dinh, with each LUYB scholarship valued at VND6 million.
Later in 2023, Deloitte Vietnam teamed up with the Women’s Business Association and the Women’s Union of Thai Nguyen Province, and Thai Nguyen University to host a WorldClass day event for students and women. At this event, Deloitte Vietnam awarded 10 “Lighting Up Your Future” scholarships to outstanding Thai Nguyen University students who have shown great academic potential and perseverance. Besides financial support, these students participated in training programs to develop knowledge and soft skills with experts from Deloitte Vietnam, preparing them to integrate into society and contribute positively to the community.
Additionally, 15 “Lighting Up Your Belief” scholarships were given to orphaned students in Thai Nguyen. Along with the scholarships, Deloitte Vietnam provides training, coaching, and skill-building programs to help these students prepare for higher education or vocational school.
The “Lighting Up Your Future” fund, a Deloitte Vietnam initiative under the WorldClass program, has had a significant positive impact on the community, offering development opportunities to hundreds of disadvantaged but talented students. Over the past 10 years, 782 scholarships have been awarded to students from 58 provinces, studying at nearly 90 universities across the country. In its 11th year, the fund continued its mission by awarding 70 scholarships to students from universities across seven provinces.
The event in Thai Nguyen was the launch of Deloitte Vietnam’s WorldClass activities for 2023-2024.
WorldClass, a global Deloitte initiative, is now in its fourth year in Vietnam. Through activities that generate positive value for the community, WorldClass and Deloitte aim to support 575,000 people in Vietnam by 2030 through education and upskilling.
Supporting the Vietnam Navy
In addition to its focus on education, Deloitte Vietnam has long supported and encouraged the Vietnam Navy through various CSR initiatives.
In July, Deloitte Vietnam partnered with Naval Zone 2 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the DK1 offshore platforms. Located in a maritime area of 80,000 square kilometers, these platforms house meteorological and marine research stations.
The officers and soldiers of DK1 Battalion, under the command of Naval Zone 2, play a crucial role in maintaining the frontline defense on Vietnam’s southern continental shelf.
Living 250-350 nautical miles from the mainland, these officers and soldiers forgo the simple joy of everyday life. In harsh conditions, many soldiers spend their youth at sea, dedicating their lives to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. Deloitte Vietnam supports the Navy as a way to honor their sacrifices.
During the 35th-anniversary celebration of the DK1 platforms, Deloitte Vietnam’s leadership attended and presented gifts to 10 families of martyrs who lost their loved ones at DK1. The company also presented gifts and words of encouragement to the soldiers currently stationed there, aiming to boost morale and help them continue their mission of protecting the nation’s sovereignty.
At the end of last year, Deloitte Vietnam celebrated 10 years of collaboration with Naval Zone 4 through meaningful programs under the “Green Sail Fund,” which supports military families. These programs included providing reproductive health care for women at Cam Ranh Base Township and inaugurating the Truong Sa (Spratly) Library.
Since the launch of the “For the Homeland’s Seas and Islands” program in 2013, Deloitte Vietnam has consistently worked with Naval Zone 4. In the first five years (2013-2018), Deloitte partnered with organizations such as the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund and the “Beloved Hoang Sa – Truong Sa Club” to carry out activities supporting the homeland’s seas and islands.
This commitment led to the creation of the “Green Sail Fund” by Deloitte Vietnam, which operates under the principle “Strong Homefront, Secure Seas and Islands.” The fund focuses on three main activities: providing financial and educational resources for primary and secondary schools in Cam Ranh Base Township, supporting the “Diligent Women for Beloved Truong Sa” club, and building homes for military families facing difficulties.
To mark the 10th anniversary of collaboration with Naval Zone 4, Deloitte Vietnam, in partnership with the Vietnam Healthcare Labor Union, Khanh Hoa Province Women’s Union, and Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, organized a reproductive health care program for 500 women at Cam Ranh Base Township. This initiative supports military families and is part of Deloitte Vietnam’s cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Healthcare Labor Union for 2023-2024.
During the same event, Deloitte Vietnam inaugurated the Truong Sa Library for the children of soldiers stationed at Cam Ranh Base Township. The library was established to foster a reading culture and to nurture a love for the homeland’s seas and islands in the children. It was built with contributions from Deloitte Vietnam members and close partners.
Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Ngoc, deputy general director of Deloitte Vietnam, said: “Deloitte Vietnam’s 10-year journey with Naval Zone 4 has been particularly meaningful, alongside many of Deloitte’s other CSR programs. Implementing a 10-year program requires dedication, connection, and special affection for this land and its people.
“We not only implement the program directly but also seek to connect with partners to bring practical value to the mothers, wives, and children of these sea soldiers, so they can be at peace while serving and protecting the nation.”
