HCMC – The U.S. dollar has continued strengthening against the Vietnamese dong as the spot rate rose to a new high of over VND25,400 to the dollar this morning, April 17.
The central bank, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), today raised the reference exchange rate to VND24,231 per dollar, up by a sharp VND90 against yesterday.
Commercial banks are permitted to trade U.S. dollars within the trading band of 5% on either side of the SBV-quoted exchange rate. This means they can trade the greenback at between VND23,019 and VND25,442 per dollar.
At Vietcombank, each dollar is bought at VND25,070 and sold at VND25,440. Eximbank revised the respective prices up to VND25,040 and VND25,440.
BIDV listed its dollar buying price at VND25,130 and its selling price at VND25,440.
So far this year, the U.S. dollar has soared by more than VND1,000, equivalent to nearly 4.2%.
