HCMC – Authorities in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap have proposed seven major expressway and national highway projects for 2026-2030, with total capital estimated at around VND47.9 trillion.
Central government funding is expected to account for the bulk, at about VND45.8 trillion, while the province will contribute more than VND2.1 trillion in counterpart capital. The projects aim to address infrastructure bottlenecks and reduce logistics costs for agricultural products, according to the latest proposal sent to the Ministry of Construction.
Among the seven projects, the Hong Ngu – Tra Vinh Expressway (Dinh Ba – Cao Lanh section) is the largest, stretching 68 kilometers with estimated investment of VND22 trillion. Other key projects include National Highway 30B with the length of 92 kilometers and capital of VND8.8 trillion and the second-phase expansion of the Cao Lanh – An Huu Expressway to 24.75 meters with the capital of VND4.6 trillion.
Additional projects include the expansion of National Highway 30 worth VND2 trillion, National Highway 50B worth VND4.279 trillion, National Highway N1 worth VND3.5 trillion and a cluster of projects covering National Highways 50 and 60 along with bypass routes with combined capital of VND2.745 trillion.
Once completed, new expressways and upgraded national roads are expected to significantly cut travel time from production areas to seaports and major economic hubs such as HCMC, creating opportunities for investment in processing industries and logistics.
Local authorities noted that implementation may face challenges related to land clearance and shortages of fill materials, which have affected the progress of transport projects across the region.
