CAN THO – Dong Thap Province plans to make industry and the marine economy its main growth drivers through 2050 under a revised development plan targeting annual GRDP growth of up to 10% in 2026-2030.

Tran Van Dung, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, announced the targets at a conference on May 21 to unveil adjustments to the province’s 2021-2030 master plan with a vision to 2050.

The province aims for average annual GRDP growth of 9.5% in 2026-2030 and per capita GRDP of about VND155 million by 2030.

Total investment in its economy for the period is projected at VND750 trillion-VND800 trillion, or 35.8%-38.2% of GRDP. State budget revenue is expected to rise by at least 10% annually.

Dong Thap looks to obtain export revenue of US$14.8 billion by 2030. It also plans to have around 22,500 new businesses and create about 250,000 jobs in 2026-2030.

The province will prioritize transport infrastructure projects linking HCMC with the Mekong Delta to improve regional connectivity and attract strategic investors.

Authorities also plan to develop cross-border and multimodal logistics infrastructure to position Dong Thap as a transit hub in the Mekong sub-region.

In agriculture, the province will focus on high-tech and ecological farming tied to processing industries, export markets and value chains. The plan also calls for circular production models and concentrated raw material zones adapted to climate change.

Dong Thap identified industrial development, marine economic activities, coastal logistics and port services as key long-term growth engines. The province plans to attract projects using advanced and environmentally friendly technologies while expanding processing industries linked to raw material areas.

Under the revised plan, Dong Thap will be divided into five socio-economic zones and five key economic corridors.

The central corridor along expressways and National Highway 1 is planned as a connection route between southeastern Vietnam and the Mekong Delta, with a focus on high-tech industries, logistics and urban development.

The eastern coastal corridor along the coastal road and National Highway 50 is planned for marine economic development, including seaport industries, offshore wind power, tourism and coastal urban projects.

Dong Thap currently has six operating industrial parks. The province plans to add 18 more, bringing the total to 24 with a combined area of more than 5,982 hectares.

Authorities may later develop another 11 industrial parks, raising the total to 35 with a planned area of more than 8,626 hectares.

The province also plans to expand its industrial cluster network from 17 to 66 clusters, covering around 3,854 hectares.
