HCMC – Eight Myanmar people stranded at sea were rescued by Panamanian vessel TRUMP SW and taken to Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on the southern coast.

On August 30, the border guards of Ba Ria-Vung Tau received eight Myanmar nationals from TRUMP SW sailing from China to Indonesia.

The eight were spotted stranded at sea by a Vietnamese sailor who was among 22 crew members on board the vessel on the morning of August 26.

Reportedly, the sailor saw several people in the sea wearing life vests, hanging onto a large plastic tank, and screaming for help when he was on duty in the control cabin.

The sailor immediately informed his captain, following which the eight were rescued and given first aid.

After that, TRUMP SW headed to a port in Vung Tau and handed over the rescued persons to the local authority.

All the eight people only speak their native language, so the local authorities are yet to figure out how they were lost at sea.

An investigation has begun to determine the cause of the incident, the authority said.
