HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed extending the North-South Expressway to the southern tip of the country, instead of ending the cross-country road in Ca Mau City as originally planned.

The ministry is gathering feedback from relevant provinces and agencies on the draft amendments to the road network development plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. One of the key tentative adjustments is the extension of the North-South Expressway to Dat Mui Commune, a three-hour drive from Ca Mau City.

The additional section of the North-South Expressway, which connects Ca Mau City and Dat Mui Commune, would be 90 kilometers long and have four lanes, with construction work expected to be completed before 2030.

If approved, this extension would see the North-South Expressway stretching from the Huu Nghi border gate in the northern province of Lang Son to Dat Mui Commune in the southernmost province of Ca Mau, with a total length of 2,153 kilometers.
