HCMC – In an effort to accelerate the shift to electric vehicles, both Hanoi and HCMC have proposed several initiatives, including financial support and loan incentives for businesses.
During a seminar on August 21, Thai Ho Phuong, director of the Center for Public Transport Management and Operation under the Hanoi Department of Transport, outlined the city’s phased roadmap for this transition, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Initially, Hanoi plans to implement a mix of 50% electric buses and 50% buses powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG). This will be followed by a phase where 70% of buses will be electric, and 30% will run on LNG/CNG. The final goal is to achieve a 100% electric bus fleet by 2040.
In HCMC, the focus will be on transitioning vehicles to electric power between 2025 and 2029, with the continued use of green fuel buses as an interim measure. By 2030, the city aims to have 100% of its buses running on green energy, according to Le Hoan, deputy director of the Public Transport Management Center.
