HCMC – Trade through the Kim Thanh border gate in the northern province of Lao Cai has been temporarily suspended due to heavy rain and flooding since the afternoon of September 9,.

Vuong Trinh Quoc, head of the Lao Cai Economic Zone Authority, reported that rising water levels in the Red River have led both Vietnamese and Chinese authorities to halt trade through the Kim Thanh border gate.

According to a report from the Lao Cai Economic Zone Authority, prior to the suspension, 143 Vietnamese vehicles carrying export goods had passed through the Kim Thanh border gate. However, more than 40 cargo trucks from Vietnam are now stranded at the border.

On the same day, the Lao Cai Department of Foreign Affairs received a notice from the Hekou Foreign Affairs Office in China about the temporary suspension of import and export activities through the Lao Cai international border gate due to heavy rain and power outage. The notification stated that trade would resume once weather conditions improve and power issues are resolved.
