HCMC – Pham Van Tam, former board chairman of Asanzo Group Joint Stock Company (Asanzo), has been charged and detained on tax evasion allegations, according to local media reports.

The HCMC Police have also pressed charges against Pham Xuan Tinh, general director and legal representative of Asanzo, and put him in police custody.

During his tenure as legal representative of Asanzo, Pham Van Tam allegedly instructed Pham Xuan Tinh to sign agreements with various companies to purchase components for air conditioners. Asanzo imported these components and assembled them into complete air conditioning products that were sold without proper tax declarations and payments. From 2017 to 2018, nearly 4,000 air conditioning units were sold in this manner.

Asanzo purchased components for air conditioning products and outsourced part of the processing to other businesses. The remaining components were assembled by Asanzo into finished air conditioners, which were then labeled with the Asanzo brand.

Authorities have determined that the company engaged in tax evasion from 2017 to the second quarter of 2019, with the total amount of unpaid taxes, including value added tax and special consumption tax, amounting to VND15.7 billion.
