Fourteen dead as fire engulfs lodging house in Hanoi

HCMC – Fourteen people were killed in a fire that struck a five-story lodging house at an alley on Trung Kinh Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, early this morning, said local media reports.

Three others were hospitalized and temporarily out of critical condition.

Local police said that a fire broke out at around 0:45 a.m. on May 24 at a five-story lodging house at Alley 43 on Trung Kinh Street, Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi.

Over 50 firefighters, police, and fire trucks promptly arrived at the scene, bringing the fire under control. As of 1:26 a.m. today, the fire was extinguished.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To, leaders of various units, and representatives of the local government arrived at the scene to direct rescue operations and investigate the cause of the fire.

At the National Assembly’s sitting this morning, NA Deputy Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh on behalf of the legislature extended condolences to the families of the victims.
