HCMC – The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning, September 14, received some 1.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine from the governments of France and Italy through the COVAX Facility.
France donated 672,000 doses to Vietnam and Italy gave 812,060 doses, the local media reported.
Speaking at a ceremony to receive the vaccine donation, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung thanked the two European countries for their valuable assistance, which is expected to help Vietnam bring the pandemic under control.
At a meeting on September 8, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, deputy head of the Government’s working group on vaccine diplomacy, said that the number of vaccine doses shipped to Vietnam rose sharply by over 16 million, raising the total to some 33 million.
In addition, Vietnam has accessed and imported some Covid-19 drugs from Japan, India and Switzerland and received medical equipment, including ventilators, oxygen concentrators, PCR testing machines, test kits and face masks, worth tens of millions of U.S. dollars through the assistance of international partners and organizations and Vietnamese citizens abroad.
