FV Hospital CEO: “We Pursue JCI Accreditation to Ensure Quality and Safety for Patients”

Must read

FV Hospital has just excellently secured its fourth consecutive JCI accreditation in April 2025 survey, achieving a score of over 98%. Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital (pictured), said that JCI experts have recognized FV as one of the best and safest hospitals in Southeast Asia.

This also confirms that FV has brought to life the vision of “becoming one of the best hospitals in Asia”, which the Board of Directors propose before “the first bricks” were laid to build the hospital.

Could you tell us what major differences there were in this fourth JCI evaluation compared to the previous three?

Every three years, JCI updates its standards with many changes. Last year, they released a new version in January 2024, and since our assessment took place in April 2025, we had only 15 months to prepare.

This time, there were numerous updates on data protection and digital communication platforms. For example, hospitals must ensure customer data confidentiality and security; while promotional communication is allowed, no confidential patient information can be disclosed. Additionally, a new chapter on sustainability was introduced, including energy usage practices. Record management and procedures have also become stricter, covering hospital governance and supply chains.

Preparing for JCI always means adapting to changes, but FV is ready for innovation. In fact, FV achieved excellent results: meeting over 98% of JCI standards. JCI also recommended some improvements, such as ensuring certain surgical scissors sterilized in the autoclave must be fully opened to guarantee complete sterilization. This shows their attention to the smallest details, and we are fully capable of implementing these recommendations.

In your view, what was the biggest challenge in meeting the new JCI requirements this time?

JCI standards are safety protocols we practice daily as routine. Having earned JCI accreditation three times consecutively, when new updates come, we simply learn the new standards and retrain staff so they continue to apply them as habits. However, when we are confident in our existing processes, one challenge is complacency and overconfidence.

What does the fourth JCI Gold Seal of Approval mean for FV Hospital amid the competition in Vietnam’s private healthcare sector?

Achieving JCI accreditation is very challenging, not only in Vietnam but also in developing countries globally. Currently, only about 1,000 large hospitals worldwide hold the JCI Gold Seal of Approval. FV is the only hospital in Southern Vietnam to receive it four times in a row.

Mentioning the JCI Gold Seal of Approval means referring to the highest level of treatment quality and safety for the patient. JCI has 1,200 criteria covering hospital operations from governance, environment, equipment, data security to patient care processes. The goal is to protect patient safety and minimize medical risks.

In this fourth evaluation, JCI experts recognized FV as one of the best and safest hospitals in Southeast Asia and Asia, with a vision to become one of the best hospitals around the world. FV’s quality is on par with major hospitals like Bumrungrad (Bangkok, Thailand) and Elizabeth (Singapore). Meanwhile, FV’s treatment costs are only one-half of those international hospitals in the region and just one-third of the costs in Singapore.

Twenty-two years ago, before founding the hospital, our vision was to become one of the best hospitals in Asia. From that vision, FV pursued the mission to earn patients’ trust. Achieving JCI accreditation four times consecutively confirms that FV has realized this ambition and continuously strives to grow stronger for patients.

“Twenty-two years ago, many people asked me if  FV’s goal to become one of Asia’s best hospitals was too ambitious. Now, after achieving JCI accreditation four times in a row, I am confident because I know we have succeeded. JCI not only strengthens patients’ trust but also reinforces confidence within FV that we chose the right path, are committed to our mission, and have delivered results.” — Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon, CEO of FV Hospital.

At FV, JCI accreditation is a work culture, aiming for the highest patient safety
