HCMC – The Government Office has released documents highlighting the outcomes of the meeting on measures for maintaining macroeconomic stability, with a strong focus on the urgent need to completely address the electricity shortage in June 2023.

The Government Standing Committee has instructed the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam Electricity Group and relevant agencies to expedite the progress of power plant development, 500 kV transmission projects, and the implementation of rooftop solar power initiatives.

To ensure an additional power supply for the northern region, the Government has directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to accelerate the development of the Quang Trach II power plant.

Furthermore, the ministry, in collaboration with the Commission for The Management of State Capital at Enterprises, has been tasked with providing guidance and overseeing the implementation of the 500 kV circuit transmission project from the central to the northern region.

As a short-term solution, the Government has instructed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promptly introduce incentives for electricity investment, promote the utilization of rooftops in households and public institutions, and establish a direct power purchase agreement mechanism starting from July.
