HCMC – The Government is seeking to integrate five types of information into the chip-based identification card as part of the draft Law on Citizen Identification.

On June 22, the National Assembly discussed the draft law, with Minister of Public Security To Lam answering queries from deputies.

The proposed integration would include healthcare insurance, social insurance, driving license, birth certificate and marriage certificate into the chip-based ID card.

Deputies expressed support for the integration but raised concerns about the feasibility and confidentiality of the information.

In response, the minister highlighted the inconveniences caused by managing various paper documents and the need to adapt to digital transformation. Integrating stable and frequently-used information into the chip-based ID card would streamline public services and align with the country’s development of information technology in state and social activity management.

The minister emphasized that the integrated information would hold the same value as separate documents, ensuring convenience and efficiency for residents.
