Green Economy Forum 2023 to highlight green transition

HCMC – The Green Economy Forum 2023, held by the Saigon Times Group, will be held under the theme “Net Zero – Pathway Toward Sustainability” in HCMC, with city leaders, foreign diplomats, experts, scientists, and business executives attending.

Scheduled on August 18, the forum will provide updates and effective solutions for the business community’s journey toward greener practices.

Taking place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Rex Hotel in District 1, HCMC, the forum will feature four presentations and two discussions.

The first presentation will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Jonathan Pincus, Senior International Economist at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), discussing “Net Zero Has Gone Viral Amid Global Economic Downturns.”

Tan Boon Thor, head of Commercial and Design Management at Frasers Property Vietnam, will present the topic “Making Words and Deeds Aligned” in the second session.

The final presentation will be led by Lam To Trinh, Vice President, Innovation and Business Development of NS BlueScope Vietnam Limited, focusing on “The Path to Net Zero: Unveiling the Business Journey.”

Following the presentations, discussions will commence.

Emily Hamblin, British Consul General in HCMC; Ha Dang Son, Deputy Chief of Party (Technical), USAID Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program II (V-LEEP II); Lam To Trinh, Vice President, Innovation and Business Development of NS BlueScope Vietnam Limited; will be the presenters for the first discussion, titled “Turning promise into reality” with Vo Tri Thanh, former vice-president of the Central Institute for Economic Management, serving as moderator.

At this session, the presenters will provide evaluations on Vietnam’s net zero progress amid the inevitable development trend of the world. Besides, solutions and initiatives will be offered to make Vietnam’s goal of turning green by 2050 a reality.

The second discussion, “Carbon Credit Generates Sustainable Earnings,” will be led by Nguyen Hong Quan, head of the Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU – HCM).

The discussion speakers include Eline Van Der Veen, Netherlands Deputy Consul General in HCMC; Tran Dinh Thien, former director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics; Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, founder and chairman of the Packaging Recycling Organization of Vietnam and Advisory Board member of the Institute for Circular Economy Development.

The second discussion will focus on generating concern and inspiration for a new but potential market, which serves as the foundation for businesses to advance further in the eco-friendly future.

The event will explore solutions to capital challenges, investment costs, revenue generation, and profits during the green transition. Participants will gain insights into effectively seizing global and local green transition opportunities to fulfill consumer demand.
