Haiphong to develop 15 new IPs

HCMC – The northern city of Haiphong plans to develop an additional 15 industrial parks (IPs) with a total area of 6,200 hectares in the 2021-2025 period, according to the municipal Economic Zone Authority.

At present, procedures to establish six IPs covering a combined area of nearly 2,800 hectares are being completed. Of these, the Xuan Cau IP project has received the prime minister’s approval, Phap Luat newspaper reported.

Dossiers on five remaining projects, including those to develop Nam Trang Cat, Thuy Nguyen, Tien Thanh, the expanded Trang Due and Giang Bien II IPs, have been submitted to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

In addition, nine other IP projects covering nearly 3,500 hectares are being planned, including Cau Cuu, An Hung-Dai Ban, Vinh Quang, Ngu Phuc-Kien Thuy, Sao Mai, Vinh Quang shipbuilding, Cai Trap Island, Nam Cau Kien (second phase) and An Hoa.

The Haiphong Economic Zone Authority has issued investment certificates for projects to build wharves Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 at the Lach Huyen International Gateway Port. Work on these wharves will start this year.

The authority has also proposed the municipal government consult with the municipal Party Committee’s Standing Board over three residential projects for workers of the Regina Miracle International Vietnam Co., Ltd and the Pegatron Technology Haiphong Co., Ltd at VSIP Haiphong and USI Company at the Dinh Vu Industrial Park.

Last year, Haiphong attracted more than US$5.1 billion in foreign investment, poured into 29 new projects and 52 existing projects and through two share acquisition transactions.

Enterprises in IPs and economic zones in the city earned a total revenue of over VND438 trillion (US$19.3 billion) and submitted over VND13.4 trillion to the State budget, exceeding the target by 39%. More than 186,000 laborers, including some 4,400 foreigners, are working in IPs and economic zones in Haiphong with an average monthly income of VND11.5 million each.
