HCMC – Hanoi City is bracing for the surging number of Covid cases and drawing up a preparedness scenario for up to 3,000 Covid infections per day.

At a meeting on December 13, the Standing Board of the Hanoi Party Committee asked the city’s competent agencies to step up action in the fight against the pandemic.

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung told a press briefing on the same day that as the number of Covid infections is on the rise, the municipal Party Committee has ordered the city government to work out a plan to respond to the disease at a higher level of 2,000-3,000 cases per day.

Grassroots authorities were told to keep a close watch on the Covid situation, improve healthcare systems and raise awareness over Covid infection prevention among residents, the local media reported.

Wards, towns and communes should quickly apply home-based care and treatment for Covid patients with no or mild symptoms to ease the overload facing hospitals, while quarantining those who come into close contact with positive cases at home.

Besides, the competent agencies were tasked with assessing the risk of Covid transmission in each part of the city to map out plans for the reopening of schools and the handling of positive Covid cases at schools.

Between October 11 and December 13, Hanoi City reported some 15,000 Covid infections. The city has 37 areas under lockdown and nine Covid infection clusters.
