HCMC – Hanoi City received an estimated 10.62 million visitors between January and July, a year-on-year increase of 3.6-fold, fulfilling its target for the entire year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

The city had earlier targeted to receive 9-10 million tourists this year, with 1.2-2 million of them international travelers, and earn VND27.8-35.8 trillion from tourism.

Of the total, the number of domestic tourists reached 10.2 million during the seven-month period, 3.5 times higher than the figure seen in the same period last year.

The tourism sector fetched VND31.9 trillion between January and July, a year-on-year rise of 3.9-fold.

In July alone, an estimated 1.94 million visitors traveled to the capital city, including 141,000 foreigners. The city’s tourism revenue reached an estimated VND6.2 trillion in July.

This demonstrated the strong post-pandemic recovery of the city’s tourism sector, which is enhancing its attempt to boost tourism for the rest of the year.

Dang Huong Giang, director of the municipal Department of Tourism, said the agency is encouraging travel firms and tourist destination operators to diversify their tourism products and services with a focus on the cultural, historical, sports and MICE tourism segments, to entice visits back to the city after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic.

The department also called on tour operators to organize FAM trips and popularize new tourism products from the city’s different areas and local specialties, the local media reported.
