HCMC – Director of Hanoi City’s Department of Health Tran Thi Nhi Ha warned that the daily number of Covid-19 cases may soon hit 1,000, as the local transmission in the capital city has turned complicated lately.

Addressing the Hanoi City People’s Council’s third session this morning, December 9, Ha said the Covid-19 situation has worsened since October 11, with the daily caseload increasing steadily, reaching 774 cases on December 6.

“…[We] anticipate the caseload to move up to hover around 1,000 new cases a day. The pandemic is spreading in the community, in all districts,” she was quoted by Thanh Nien as saying. However, as the vaccination rate is high, most of the Covid cases are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, she said.

However, the city has readied solutions to cope with the situation, which is not serious given the high number of asymptomatic cases. Currently, 90-92% of Covid-19 cases are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, while critical cases remain low at 1.2% and the death rate is 0.34%, Ha said.

Elsewhere in HCMC, as the number of critical cases is on the rise, the HCMC Covid-19 Resuscitation Hospital has resumed the operations of a resuscitation ward, and plans to raise the number of beds from 200 to between 300 and 500 to meet the rising demand.

Tran Thanh Linh, deputy director of the hospital, said the hospital is receiving some 30-35 critical Covid-19 patients transferred daily from Thu Duc City, District 4 and Binh Thanh District.
