HCMC – Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão will pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the third ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) from June 7 to 10 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.

The visit is expected to mark an important step in strengthening political trust and expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the visit in a statement issued on June 4.

The trip comes as bilateral relations continue to develop through regular high-level exchanges. Most recently, on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in the Philippines, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held talks with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão to review ongoing cooperation and discuss priorities ahead of the visit.

The two countries are seeking to deepen economic ties in sectors where Vietnam has strengths and Timor-Leste has growing demand, particularly telecommunications, digital transformation, agriculture, energy, and human resource development.

Among the most notable cooperation projects is Telemor, the mobile network operated in Timor-Leste by Viettel Group. The project is regarded as a flagship example of bilateral economic cooperation and has contributed to Timor-Leste’s socioeconomic development.

Building on this foundation, both sides expect stronger investment and trade flows, particularly as Timor-Leste accelerates its integration into ASEAN.

Vietnam and Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations on July 28, 2002. After Timor-Leste opened its embassy in Hanoi in April 2012, Vietnam officially launched operations at its embassy in Dili in April 2026.
