HCMC – The HCMC Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will be performing two programs in May.
The first program is a revival of the Ballet Kieu on May 13 and 14. Ballet Kieu retells in dance form the classic 18th century tale of a virtuous and beautiful woman who sacrifices her chances of happiness to save her father and brother from prison. A life of prostitution is only one of the ordeals she has to endure.
This work has been a major success and has been performed in Hanoi and HCMC. Its being staged twice suggests HBSO expects some large audiences.
The second program is an evening comprising an assortment of short opera extracts, by Borodin, Smetena, Verdi, Lehar and others, before the Intermission, followed by Dvorak’s hugely popular New World Symphony thereafter. This concert will take place on May 21.
All events will be in the Saigon Opera House, beginning at 8 p.m.
Ticket prices are VND400,000 to VND750,000, with a special concession for students of VND80,000.
