HCMC – HCMC and Hanoi City have been listed among the world’s 100 most walkable cities in 2026 in a ranking released by travel platform GuruWalk.
The list assesses destinations based on ease of movement, density of attractions, accessibility, and overall experience for travelers exploring on foot, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Both cities were recognized for their distinct urban character, closely located landmarks, and active street life. Hoi An, which previously was a coastal city under the former Quang Nam Province, was also named in the ranking.
European cities led the list, with Rome taking the top spot, followed by Madrid, Budapest, and Prague. These cities have compact centers and attractions within walking distance.
The ranking also features destinations in Asia and the Americas such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and New York City.
According to industry assessments cited in the report, the Old Quarter in Hanoi City offers dense networks of streets, shops, and heritage sites suited for walking-based tourism. HCMC draws visitors with a mix of historic and modern architecture and a wide range of street food options.
GuruWalk’s ranking reflects growing interest in urban tourism and walking as a travel format focused on local cultural experiences.
