HCMC – A fleet of 70 electric vehicles (EV) has been put into service to transport passengers and tourists around HCMC.

Commencing today, April 12, these eco-friendly EVs will serve as a convenient mode of transportation for sightseeing tours, elevating the overall tourist experience in the city.

The program features drivers and staff in ao ba ba (traditional southern Vietnamese loose-fitting shirt with long sleeves), who introduce tourist attractions and the city’s unique characteristics during the journey.

At the inauguration, Saigon Public Transport (Saigon.PT) Ltd. Co, the service provider, expressed their commitment to “providing convenient transportation services for both locals and tourists alike”.

By 2025, Saigon.PT will increase its fleet to 200 EVs.

Vo Khanh Hung, vice director of the HCMC Department of Transport, said the pilot program for utilizing EVs for passenger transportation would help protect the environment and foster green growth in HCMC.

Previously approved by HCMC authorities, the pilot program allows for the use of EVs to transport passengers within districts 1, 4, 5, and 6 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
