HCMC – HCMC authorities have instructed relevant departments to finalize plans for auctioning seven land plots in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area, with the process expected to take place in 2026.
According to the city government’s online portal, the plots slated for auction include 3-8, 3-9, and 3-12 in Functional Zone 3; 7-1 and 7-17 in Functional Zone 7; 1-12 in Functional Zone 1; and 4-21 in Functional Zone 4.
These plots have completed technical infrastructure and largely finished compensation and site clearance work. Notably, plots 3-8, 3-9, and 3-12 were previously auctioned at the end of 2021, but the winning bidder failed to meet payment obligations on time and forfeited their deposit.
The city also directed An Khanh Ward and the Urban Development Management Board to accelerate compensation and clearance for plot 1-20, and to complete infrastructure at plots 3-17 (Functional Zone 3) and 5-3 (Functional Zone 5) in preparation for upcoming auctions.
The Finance Department has been tasked with developing an investment promotion list and organizing tenders for projects using land in sports and entertainment complexes in Functional Zone 2c, as well as plots 8-1, 8-2, and 8-3 in the ecological park area. The Department of Agriculture and Environment will coordinate with the Land Development Center and related agencies to prepare detailed plans and submit them for city approval.
Thu Thiem New Urban Area, approved for planning in 1996, covers 930 hectares and is designed to accommodate about 200,000 residents and 45,000 resettled households.
At a recent conference unveiling the city’s master plan through 2040 and promoting investment in the former Thu Duc City, local officials said the city aims to attract capital to complete Thu Thiem as an international financial hub, expand the university district, and advance the second phase of the high-tech zone before 2030. Officials also plan to auction 49 plots in the coming years.
