HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport has listed nearly 900 roads across the city that will serve as a basis for district authorities to lease sidewalks.

The Department of Transport will be responsible for issuing permits and collecting fees for roads under its management, while district-level authorities will handle roads under their jurisdiction.

Initially, sidewalk fee collection will begin on selected routes in accordance with new regulations governing the management and use of sidewalks and part of roadsides.

Sidewalks available for leasing must be at least three meters wide, with half of that space reserved for pedestrians. Leasing arrangements will only be permitted on roads wide enough to accommodate two lanes of traffic in one direction.

Fee collection will be based on average prices in each area, higher in inner-city areas than on the outskirts. Parking fees will range from VND50,000 to VND350,000 per square meter per month, and other activities will be subject to between VND20,000 and VND100,000 per square meter.

Cashless payment for these services will be recommended, and the Department of Transport will soon announce the rates, collection methods, and operational plans for residents’ information and oversight.
