HCMC proposes lengthening Vo Van Kiet road to Long An

Must read

HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport has proposed extending Vo Van Kiet Avenue to Duc Hoa District in neighboring Long An Province in the Mekong Delta to create an inter-regional route and boost the economic growth of the two localities.

Phan Cong Bang, deputy director of the municipal department, told VnExpress on July 22 that the proposal was made at a meeting between HCMC and Long An Province to discuss the execution of 23 key traffic infrastructure projects in the two localities.

Bang said that Vo Van Kiet Avenue is expected to be extended by some five kilometers, until the Hai Son-Tan Do Industrial Park in Duc Hoa District.

Once in place, the extended street will ease the burden on Tran Van Giau Street and Provincial Road 10, which connect Binh Chanh District with Duc Hoa District, Bang said, adding that the extension of the street will facilitate the transport of goods between the Long An-based industrial parks and industrial zones in HCMC.

Vo Van Kiet Avenue, which is 60 meters wide and 13 kilometers long, was opened to traffic in 2009. It is considered a key route to connect HCMC with many provinces in the southern region.

Apart from this, HCMC and Long An Province reached a consensus to develop a new road in the northwest. The new road is expected to be some 20 kilometers in length, starting at National Highway 1A in Binh Tan District and ending at Ring Road 4 in Long An Province’s Hau Nghia Town.

The two localities will also focus on developing a road in parallel with National Highway 50 from Pham Hung Street in HCMC’s outlying district of Binh Chanh to Long An Province in the 2021-2025 period. The projected nine-kilometer road is set to have six lanes, Dan Tri Online reported.

Apart from this, Nguyen Van Bua, Long Hau and Le Van Luong streets will soon be extended in line with the traffic plan to connect the city and the Mekong Delta province.
