HCMC – Six people residing in HCMC’s District 5, 6, 10 and Tan Phu were placed under quarantine and had to undergo Covid-19 tests as they had been in close contact with the country’s 1,553rd patient, the HCMC Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced today, January 28.

The HCMC Department of Health earlier in the day chaired an urgent online meeting with leaders of 24 district-level medical centers, following the confirmation of locally-transmitted cases in the northern provinces of Hai Duong and Quang Ninh.

At the meeting, the department ordered that contact tracing for people linked to the confirmed cases, suspected cases and those returning from virus-hit regions must be conducted in a methodological manner.

Also, measures to manage quarantine facilities and to fight the disease at medical centers must be accelerated. Competent forces must monitor cases that develop symptoms of respiratory diseases such as fever, coughing and shortness of breath to promptly detect infected cases and prevent the possible spread of community cases to hospitals in the city.

Nguyen Tan Binh, director of the municipal Health Department, said that the city’s health system is ready to cope with situations linked to the disease.

Binh asked the city dwellers to remain calm, access health information from official channels and practice Covid-19 safety measures to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

In related news, the health authority of Hanoi placed 24 people who came into close contact with the country’s 1,552nd patient in Hai Duong in quarantine. The patient is a sister-in-law of N.T.G, a local resident of Hai Duong who tested positive for the new coronavirus variant upon her arrival in Japan.
