HCMC – HCMC on April 17 launched free health check-ups and screenings at 168 local health stations, with participation from more than 100 hospitals, according to the HCMC Department of Health.

The program was carried out simultaneously across all wards and communes, marking the first time the city has mobilized its full grassroots healthcare network alongside hospitals for a large-scale health screening campaign.

Doctors from different specialties were assigned to screen for multiple conditions in one visit, covering cardiovascular, endocrine, musculoskeletal and dental diseases.

At Gia Dinh Ward Health Station, local staff coordinated with Gia Dinh People’s Hospital to conduct screenings for heart disease and diabetes. Residents arrived early, while scheduled time slots helped manage patient flow.

At Hiep Binh Ward Health Station, medical teams conducted abdominal ultrasounds and blood tests to screen for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and lipid disorders. Van Phuc General Hospital supported thyroid cancer ultrasound screenings.

Around 200 residents were scheduled for thyroid cancer screening during the day. Older people were prioritized in the morning, with other groups examined in the afternoon to avoid overcrowding. The program is open to all residents, regardless of residency status, with a focus on higher-risk groups.

About 20 medical staff were deployed at the Hiep Binh site following early planning and coordination with hospitals.

In Con Dao Special Zone, screenings were conducted by rotating doctors from Nguyen Trai Hospital and People’s Hospital 115.

The health sector also prioritized cervical cancer screening for female workers in selected areas, carried out by specialists in obstetrics and oncology at 16 wards and communes.

The April 17 campaign follows an earlier screening drive on April 5 and serves as a starting point for a broader plan to provide regular health check-ups for residents from 2026 onward.

The Department of Health has completed a proposal for periodic health screening and disease detection for city residents. Once approved, it will support annual check-ups and the development of a data-based health management system for the population.
