HCMC – HCMC has 302 long-delayed projects whose land use rights have been approved by the municipal People’s Council, but their deadlines for land compensation and conversion of land use purpose have expired.

Since 2016, the municipal People’s Council has passed 11 resolutions allowing land reclamation and the conversion of land use purpose for 1,445 projects, with 21% of them having stalled, Nguyen Toan Thang, director of the HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said at a meeting on October 4.

Among these approved projects, as many as 402 have been completed, while 741 other projects are under development.

The district-level governments in HCMC have proposed stripping the 302 long-stalled projects of their land use rights, the local media reported.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Van, head of the council’s Urban Committee, said that the number of long-stalled projects was high, adding that many districts are seeing up to 30% of the total delayed.

Van proposed the municipal department carefully assess and list projects in need of land reclamation and conversion, while the Urban Committee will also study the feasibility of the projects proposed by districts before sending the list to the HCMC People’s Council for approval.

The move will help prevent a situation in which many projects approved by the HCMC People’s Council turn unfeasible at length.
