HCMC – HCMC will reinstate the Department of Planning and Architecture this month by separating certain functions from the Department of Construction to better meet the city’s growing urban development needs.
The decision was approved at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the HCMC Party Committee on September 17, following a proposal from the Party Committee of the HCMC People’s Committee.
The department will have six specialized divisions and three public service units. The city government will work with the National Assembly delegation and the municipal People’s Council to finalize documents for approval at a special council meeting later this month.
HCMC Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang said the separation falls under the city’s authority and does not require approval from the central Government.
He explained that when the departments were merged, the workload and scale of urban development had been underestimated. Reinstating the Department of Planning and Architecture is aimed at strengthening professional capacity and improving the city’s ability to respond quickly to planning and architectural demands.
