HCMC’s daily new infections fall to lowest level in over one month

HCMC – With 3,786 new infections announced this evening, September 24, HCMC as Vietnam’s current biggest coronavirus hotspot reported the lowest daily cases in 30 days, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry this evening confirmed 8,537 new infections in the country, also the lowest level over the past month. Among them, seven were imported cases, while the 8,530 remaining cases were locally transmitted, down 935 cases against yesterday.

HCMC saw a decline of 1,266 cases compared to yesterday. Meanwhile, the neighboring provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai reported 2,978 and 803 new cases, up 214 and 43 cases day-on-day, respectively. The rest were found in 31 other provinces and cities.

More than 12,300 coronavirus patients were declared free of the disease the same day, bringing the nation’s recoveries to over 505,800 cases.

The ministry also confirmed 203 more Covid deaths in the day, with HCMC accounting for 140 cases, and Binh Duong having 30 cases. Accordingly, the Covid death toll in the country has reached 18,220 cases to date.

In related news, according to the anti-Covid authority in Phu Quoc City of Kien Giang Province, the island city reported 38 new cases in An Thoi Ward from 12 p.m. on September 23 to 12 p.m. on September 24, sending the island city’s tally since September 20 to 107 cases. The city has made preparations to set up a 1,000-bed field hospital in Cua Can Commune to cope with a hike in new cases.

In the north-central province of Thanh Hoa, restaurants and eateries are allowed to offer dine-in services starting tomorrow, but are required to serve a limited number of customers and follow anti-Covid requirements. Besides, many other essential services in the province will reopen tomorrow, according to a decision issued by the provincial chairman Do Minh Tuan this afternoon.

Since the latest outbreak hit Vietnam in late April, Thanh Hoa has reported 491 cases, with 340 recoveries and five deaths. As of now, no districts or towns in the province are under quarantine or lockdown. Also, the province has administered more than 499,000 Covid vaccine doses.
