HCMC – Nguyen Thi Hong, former vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Committee, is facing charges of allegedly abusing power while on official duty in a legal case related to the state-owned Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) and VRG-affiliated entities.

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) today, July 17, announced that Hong, who also served as deputy head of Steering Committee 09, is accused of violating Article 356 of the Penal Code.

The Investigation Police Agency (C03) under the MPS also issued a decision prosecuting and detaining Tran Ngoc Thuan, VRG’s former general director, for allegedly receiving bribes, as stipulated in Article 354 of the Penal Code.

Vo Sy Luc, VRG’s former chairman, and Tran Thoai, VRG’s board member and former deputy general director, are charged with allegedly violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, leading to loss and wastefulness, as per Article 219 of the Penal Code.

The arrests are the latest development of an expanded investigation that involves Dong Nai Rubber Company, Ba Ria Rubber Company, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Decisions and prosecution orders have been executed after approval by the Supreme People’s Procuracy. C03 is gathering evidence while continuing the investigation and taking measures to recover State assets.

This case, initiated in May, previously resulted in the arrests of nine individuals for allegedly violating state asset management regulations.
