HCMC – A 87-year-old resident of Phu Tho Province, who received medical treatment at a Hanoi hospital this month, was confirmed as Vietnam’s latest Covid-19 patient this morning, August 20, sending the nation’s total infections to 994, stated the Health Ministry.

On August 12, he visited Hospital E in Hanoi for a health check and returned to his relative’s home in the capital city’s Bac Tu Liem District. He was admitted to the hospital’s Hepatology Department and was diagnosed with pneumonia the following day.

His Covid-19 testing result came out as positive on August 19. The man is being treated and quarantined at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

Following his confirmed infection with the novel coronavirus, Hospital E decided to suspend operations starting 8 p.m. last night and has initially identified nearly 100 health care workers having close contact with the patient. The whole hospital has been disinfected on the night.

To date, 533 of the 994 Covid-19 cases in the country have fully recovered, 435 others are being treated, and 25 have died.
