HCMC – Electricity consumption in HCMC has increased sharply since early April due to prolonged hot weather, according to HCMC Power Corporation (EVNHCMC).
Data from EVNHCMC showed that the city’s power demand reached 95.12 million kWh on April 3, 95.17 million kWh on April 4, and 96.89 million kWh on April 5. Last year the figure peaked at 94.8 million kWh on May 6.
During the first quarter of 2024, electricity usage in HCMC surged by 10.79%, the highest rise in over a decade. Specifically, power demand by industrial customers picked up by 5%, while consumption by residential customers climbed by nearly 15%.
With the persistent heat wave, the city’s electricity demand is expected to further escalate, with projections indicating a potential surge of 30-40% compared to March.
Given the situation, EVNHCMC is calling on residents to join hands in reducing electricity usage at home and workplaces.
