HCMC – The Government of Italy on September 21 announced its decision to donate an additional 796,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses to Vietnam through the Covax Facility to help the country bring the Covid-19 pandemic under control.
The additional donation raises the total number of Covid vaccine doses given to Vietnam by Italy to over 1.6 million, making Vietnam one of the top vaccine recipients from the European country.
Besides, Italy is one of the European Union members that have offered the most assistance to Vietnam through the Covax Facility, the local media reported.
The valuable and timely assistance from Italy has highlighted the bilateral long-standing friendship and strategic partnership which was established in January 2013.
Earlier on September 14, Vietnam received 812,060 vaccine doses from Italy to step up its vaccination drive.
As of September 20, Vietnam had received some 50 million doses of the AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Sputnik and Vero Cell Covid vaccines.
