HCMC – Vietnam has emerged as a preferred destination for numerous Japanese businesses seeking high-quality seafood processing facilities to ship their products to markets such as the U.S. and ASEAN countries, according to Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF).
This insight was shared during a business connection event for the Japanese seafood industry held in Vietnam on March 14, jointly organized by MAFF, the Consulate General of Japan in HCMC, and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
Toru Yoshimatsu, MAFF representative, highlighted Vietnam’s abundance of high-capacity seafood processing factories that adhere to global export standards. This strength positions Vietnam as an ideal partner for Japanese businesses looking to expand their product reach into various international markets.
Yoshimatsu also mentioned that Japan’s total revenue from agro-forestry-fishery and food exports in 2023 reached some JPY1,454 billion. The Japanese government aims to set new targets of JPY2,000 billion by 2025 and JPY5,000 billion by 2030. Key seafood export items of Japan include scallops, seriola, and red sea bream.
